Here you will find news and information about Llanfair Uniting church in Penrhys, South Wales.
Another partner is Llanfair Uniting church in Penrhys, South Wales. Perched on a mountain top between the two Rhondda valleys, Penrhys estate was built in the 1960s and gained a name as somewhere ‘hard to house’ families lived, with unemployment, crime, addiction, poor health and education. Community regeneration began in the 1990s, based on the congregation at Llanfair, a joint URC project with six other denominations led by then minister John Morgans and his wife Norah. A much more hopeful spirit is now evident, thanks to the work of the church and the school, as well as the community agency Penrhys Partnership. Llanfair offers worship, a community café, art and homework clubs, a launderette and Nearly New Boutique. These are all run by local and overseas volunteers. The contribution of Partners since the early 1990s has been the collection, sorting and delivery of good quality second hand clothes for the boutique.
