Here you will find news and information about Providence URC in New Mills.
Providence URC, New Mills, joined Partners in 2008. New Mills is a traditional mill town which has seen its older industries decline or close down. Lying at the far north western corner of Derbyshire it is somewhat isolated from the rest of the county and lacks community services. The town’s more natural links are with Manchester and Stockport and it has gradually become a dormitory town for them. Providence has inherited a large range of buildings which in the 1990s badly needed to be upgraded and made fit fit for purpose. At the same time community needs were identified in a Neighbourhood Survey. The results of the survey have guided the ambitious redeveloping of the church buildings and the premises are now widely used by the community. Wilmslow URC helped the local church to develop their business plan and raise initial funds for the project. As redevelopment continues, Wilmslow supports them in raising funds.
